It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that Strathcona Nursery School’s lease at King Edward Elementary (KEE) will be ending on June 30, 2023.
I want to be clear: our lease may be ending, but SNS is not. However, we do need to find a new space to move into. In order to open registration for the 2023-24 school year, we hope to have a space lined up by March 1.
As disappointing as this news may be, we are facing the challenge of finding a new location with optimism. Growth is part of life, although not easy; just as KEE is continuing on their journey of growth, so must we.
We have loved our community since we opened our doors in 1978, and we are hopeful we will be able to remain in this community for many years to come. As Teacher Mitzi reminds us, “This is a new beginning to get excited about. Strathcona Nursery School will continue on—and it will become a better program than could ever be possible in the KEE building!”
It is up to us, the collective group of families past and present—all who cherish Strathcona Nursery School—to ensure its future.
If you would like to become a part of the board or offer any resources or suggestions, or ask any questions, we invite you to please reach out so that we can work together to secure our future for many more years to come.
SNS Board President
We need to find a new location! And to make that happen, we need help from our community. If you have a cool resource, information or idea to offer that will help us find our new home, please reach out.
We'll be updating this section as we have more information about the process ahead.
The Edmonton Public School Board anticipates community growth and demand for instruction space at King Edward School. In January 2021 our classroom was halved to accommodate another classroom for KEE students; now the school requires the rest of our space.
This is a complicated question but the short answer is: Probably. (Realtors, please get in touch for our exact budget if you think you might be able to help!)
We're working on a comprehensive list of our requirements for a new space, but to start, this is a basic wish list:
Honestly, we don't know. The most heartbreaking possible outcome is that SNS, our multi-generational, much-loved neighbourhood institution, will close its doors. We really don't want that to happen.
Hook us up! We will possibly need to think outside of the box to figure out this challenge, so any ideas, resources or support are very appreciated.
No. Unfortunately our lease ends on June 30, 2023 so we will not have access to the space at King Edward over the summer.
We hope so. But it does rely on finding a new space, and new Board, as early as possible.
All our current Board Members will finish their terms at the end of this school year. If you have been thinking about joining the board, please reach out to one of us! We're hoping to have next year's Board voted into their positions in early Spring to make this challenging transition as smooth as possible.
